commission information
General
Welcome to my commission section. I offer character drawings and character reference sheets. A character drawing is just what is says, a drawing of your character/characters. Backgrounds can be added for additional fees but I must evaluate the detail level and will let you know a price once we discuss the project more in depth. A character reference sheet is a drawing of your character that can be used by you or other artist to reference your character. It includes multiple views, possibly including front, side, 3/4, and back views along with possible facial, accessory, and detail shots. The format is not set and will be determined by what views best accentuate your individual character and are up for discussion.
Style
The styles offered are American Comic, Anime, and 3D renderings. The prices for comic and Anime are the same with 3D being slightly altered. 3D characters must be of a human nature, such as human, vampire, or elf but can include animal features like tails or wings or be based from mythical creatures such as mermaids or centaurs. I cannot do full anthropomorphic/furry characters as in those who are totally covered with fur. I can give them tails, ears, wings, etc, but not make then furry in 3D. 3D renderings are fully textured and rendered characters only, no meshes or wireframes!
Formats and Conditions
All commissions will be sent to you via the internet as a 150dpi-300dpi resolution jpeg . Prints can be requested but will be charged an additional fee for printing and mailing of them item (to be discussed upon request). You may also request your files be transfered to a CD and mailed to you for an additional fee (a free print comes with CD purchase) Upon completion you will be sent the final version to be used for your personal non-profit use only! By commissioning me, you are also allowing me rights to use the artwork produced for my own portfolio. Character creation will always be credited to you and you will always be informed if/when your character is used. If you would like exclusive rights to your image (meaning I make no claims on it and it is 100% yours to do with as you p lease), they can also be purchased for an additional fee.
About the Process and Timeline
The
following is what you can expect from my commission process. The client
is e-mailed at least once per stage and I will not move on to the next stage
until I have the go ahead from the client to do so. If a commissioner
request more then 2 changes per stage additional fees may be incurred depending
on the complexity of those changes. If the client would like changes to be
made after okaying a move on to the next stage, they will be charged additional
fees for making the changes. If a commissioner adds details after the initial
discussion of the commission, additional fees may be charged.
For a pencil, ink, ink with shading, cel-shaded, or CG full color image:
Stage One, Sketching: I do a rough sketch. Sometimes more than one
depending on if the client or I have set idea of what the final work should
look like. Then I refine that sketch adding detail until it looks how
the client wants it to look.
Stage Two, Inking: I then go over the sketch with ink.
Stage Three, Flat Color or Shading: I do touch up on the linework
and then remove the white from the image. I then block in the large areas
of color. If a shaded commission, I do the shading at this stage instead
of color.
Stage Four, Coloring and Detail (Cel or CG): I take the flat
colored image and start adding detail. I start more broad and then move to
more specific details until the image is done.
For 3D work:
Stage One, Rough Sketch: I do a rough sketch for the character and
pose to get an idea of what the final character should look like. I
generally do not send this to the client but keep it around for me when I work
so I don't get off track. I sometimes skip this step if the client sends me
ample references.
Stage Two, Base Models: I get the base figure worked out including
overall body build, skin textures, eyes color, and facial detail, sometimes I
will do the hair at this stage.
Stage Three, Clothing: I then add clothing (and hair
if I haven't already) to the figure. I them texture everything.
Stage Four A, Posing: The next to final step involves posing the
character and adding any props (swords, guns, etc). Lighting is also
set during this stage.
Stage Four B, Background (optional): If a background is
requested it is built and the figure is placed in it. Also,
if there is a background the lighting is set after the figure is placed in the
background.
Stage Five, Rendering and Postwork: I get all the final details
together and render out a hi-res version of the character. I then take him/her
into Photoshop and do any postwork (reworking hair, fixing glitches, etc)
that may need to be done to complete the image.
I believe that's everything. If you'd like any more information on any one
stage or have any general questions about the process please e-mail
me.
Payment
I accept Paypal, checks or money orders as payment. A non-refundable deposit of half the total cost of the commission is due upon my acceptance of the commission request. The rest you can pay at any time during the process in parts or entirely, but you will not receive a final version until I receive full payment. You can also chose to pay in full once I agree to do the commission if you prefer.

Legal
I, as the artist, retain the right at any time to refuse a commission request by a person(s) or refuse to continue a commission for any reason. If the commission is not completed but paid for in full, there will be up to a 50% refund of the total commission price depending on how far in the commission process it is at the time of dissolution.
A client/commissioner may request to discontinue the commission at any time but understands that any deposit is non-refundable and that the refunded amount is dependent upon how much of the commission is completed at the time of their stopping the process. Additionally, if a client has not paid in full, but decides to end the commission, there may be additional charges incurred dependent upon how much of the commission is completed.
The commission becomes forfeit if the client becomes unreachable for a period longer then a month (30 days) without telling the artist before hand about said absence or after 3 non-responses to e-mails from the artist checking in (this may be flexible depending upon conditions). If the client contacts the artist again after a period of non-activity, they understand that additional charges to finish the commission may be incurred and that the artist is under no obligation to continue the commission unless those charges are paid. The artist may agree to waive said fees in certain circumstances.
That being said I am very flexible and easy to get along with and am not without a heart so there are circumstances under which some of the above may be waived by me. I generally get along very well with all my clients, to read some feedback on me, please visit either here or here. If you have any questions or wish to discuss any of the above, please do not hesitate to e-mail me about anything in the above information.
